What Can You Do to Help Your Car’s Tires Last Longer?

You probably don’t enjoy buying new tires sooner than you expect, and there are ways that you can help to protect your car’s tires and help them to last as long as you originally thought that they would. Skiles Automotive Services is here to help with these tips.

Make Sure to Look at the Tires

It sounds way too simple, but one of the best things that you can do for your car’s tires is to look at them on a regular basis. That helps you to see changes when they’re still minor, instead of suddenly finding that you’ve got massive tread wear issues that you didn’t know where happening. Visually inspecting your car’s tires doesn’t have to take a long time, and it will save you a ton of time and money.

Check the Tire Pressure, Too

While you’re taking a quick look at the tires, stop and check the air pressure in each tire, too. Over- and under-inflation are huge issues, for the same reasons. Improper air pressure causes part of the tire’s tread, either the inner third or the outer two-thirds, to not have correct contact with the road’s surface. That means you end up with uneven tread wear and possibly areas that could be weaker and lead to a blowout.

Keep up with Recommended Services

Your car’s manufacturer recommends a variety of different tire and wheel services that you need to have performed at specific intervals. It’s tempting to ignore those recommendations, especially when you’re busy and you don’t feel as if you have time to take your car in to the shop. But avoiding wheel alignments, tire rotations, and wheel balancing shortens the lifespan of your car’s tires, by a lot.

Stay Alert for Signs of Trouble

It’s really important to know what the signs of problems are with your car’s tires. The sooner you respond to those signs, the easier it will be to maintain your tires and hopefully prevent premature loss of one or more of your tires. Vibrations, pulling, and unusual noises coming from the tires can all be signs that you have something going on in your tires.
