Common Problems With Diesel Engines

Diesel engines are durable and strong. This is one advantage of driving a diesel automobile. If you take care of the engine, you will get hundreds of thousands of miles out of it. This being said, diesel engines can suffer from common problems. Do not worry. If you are having problems with your diesel engine, we are experts in diesel engine repair. Let’s talk more about this below.

Cranking Too Much

If you don’t take care of your diesel engine, there will come a point when it starts to crank too much before it starts. This is a sign that the engine is overdue for much-needed maintenance that will increase its ability to start smoothly without cranking several times. For example, you will have difficulties starting your diesel engine if one or more of the glow plugs have worn out and aren’t working.

Fuel-Related Power Loss

Generally, if your diesel engine is not producing the power that it normally produces, you have a fuel-related problem. In most cases, there is not enough fuel heading into the engine because the fuel filter is clogged or the fuel injectors are clogged. This being said, your diesel engine can also lose power if there is too much lubrication in the engine. Another cause of power loss is a loose throttle linkage.

Fuel-Related Black Exhaust

Continuing the discussion of fuel problems, if your diesel engine is releasing excess black exhaust, you have too much fuel in the engine. Perhaps the air filter is clogged or one or more of the fuel injectors are leaking. You can also end up with too much black exhaust flowing out of the tailpipe if the EGR valve is broken. Finally, if the turbo charger is malfunctioning, you may end up with fuel-related black exhaust.

Oxidized Motor Oil

The most common reason why the oil fills with air bubbles in your diesel engine is non-operation. In other words, your diesel automobile has not been driven in months. Driving the vehicle with oxidized motor oil can damage the engine because the oil is filled with air. This prevents the oil from being able to protect the moving engine parts by lubricating them. It can also make the engine run too hot.

Finally, your diesel engine may make too much noise if there is something wrong. For example, if the fuel injectors need to be replaced, the engine may knock while in operation. Do not worry. Again, we are diesel engine experts and we can repair and maintain your diesel automobile.
